Venezuelan arraigned in envoy’s death

A Venezuelan diplomat was arraigned in a Nairobi court Monday after the death Thursday of the country’s new ambassador to Kenya.

Ambassador Olga Fonseca was found dead at her residence in Nairobi, Kenya, after a party in her house, and postmortem results show she was strangled.

Dwight Ashrubal Saragay, First Secretary at the Venezuelan Embassy, was arraigned on charges relating to the homicide, but no specifics were released. Prosecution attorneys requested 14 more days to conclude investigations and gather additional evidence, the Kenya Broadcasting Corp. reported Monday.

Reports indicated Fonseca had fallen out with five Kenyan employees at the embassy, firing them after they refused to retract allegations of sexual harassment against the previous envoy, Gerato da Silva.
