NBC sources indicate Romney picks Ryan
Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney will name U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin his running mate Saturday, sources indicated to NBC News.
The news network said three sources close to the Romney campaign indicated Romney will announce in Norfolk, Va., the House Budget Committee chairman will join him on the GOP ticket.
The Romney campaign announced Friday night the former Massachusetts governor would announce his running mate during a morning tour of the USS Wisconsin but gave no indication of who it would be.
Ryan”s name has been bandied about as being on Romney”s short list of possible running mates, along with that of U.S. Sen. Rob. Portman of Ohio and former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty.
NBC said Pawlenty has confirmed he will not be traveling to Virginia, but would not confirm Ryan had gotten the nod.
A Ryan spokesman told NBC, “I”m saying I don”t know anything definitive at all, so can”t confirm anything on or off record.”
