Israel treats Hamas PM’s relative
The brother-in-law of Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh recently underwent heart surgery at an Israeli hospital, officials said.
Four months ago the husband of Haniyeh’s sister Suhila suffered a serious cardiac condition, which was untreatable in hospitals in Gaza, and the couple sought permission from Israeli authorities to allow him to be treated in Israel, Ynetnews.com said Wednesday.
Suhila accompanied her husband, who was taken in a Palestinian ambulance to the Erez border crossing in Gaza, transferred to an Israeli ambulance and taken to the Beilinson Medical Center in Petah Tikva, the Web site said.
The husband was treated for approximately a week in Israel. Once his condition stabilized, he returned to Gaza, the site said.
Israel often issues permits to Gazans seeking medical treatment in Israel.
Even in this instance, Haniyeh’s brother-in-law was treated in Israel despite the fact that the Hamas prime minister refuses to recognize Israel’s right to exist and takes advantage of every opportunity to accuse Israel of wrongdoing.
Earlier this week Haniyeh accused Israel of being involved in the attack on an Egyptian military base in which 16 Egyptian border guards and soldiers were killed, the site said.
