Deadly shooting spree at Toronto party
At least 10 people were shot and at least one was killed at a house party of more than 200 people Monday night in an eastern Toronto neighborhood, police said.
One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene in Scarborough and there were unconfirmed reports a second person had died, CTV News and CITY TV said.
Toronto Emergency Medical Services spokesman Tony Iagallo told the Toronto Star several of the injured were children.
“Some of them are very young — very young,” he said.
Toronto’s principle trauma hospital, Sunnybrook, took the initial wave of injured and then declared overload, forcing paramedics to take others to St. Michael’s Hospital, the reports said.
Police spokeswoman Constable Wendy Drummond told CITY TV a search was on for at least one gunman.
The force’s guns and gangs task force was on the scene as emergency task force officers sealed off the neighborhood.
No one in the neighborhood would speak to any of the television news outlets, saying they feared for their safety.
