Airstrike kills provincial Taliban leader
An airstrike in Afghanistan’s Kunar province killed Nabi Rahman, a Taliban leader and explosives expert, the International Security Assistance Force said.
Afghan and Coalition forces requested the strike Friday after locating Rahman, who was coordinating the movement of insurgents in the region, Khaama Press reported.
Rahman provided explosives and training for insurgents and planned attacks against Afghan and coalition forces, the ISAF said.
In a separate operation in Kost province, Afghan-led security forces detained a Haqqani leader suspected of planning a suicide bombing and coordinating the movement of weapons and improvised explosives.
Several suspected insurgents were also detained.
