7 hurt in Minnesota deck collapse
Three people remained hospitalized Monday after the weekend collapse of a deck loaded with about 20 people in Forest Lake, Minn., officials said.
Forest Lake police Sgt. Bruce Peterson said the accident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday when the group gathered on the 12-foot-high deck to pose for a photo, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported.
KMSP-TV, Minneapolis, reported homeowner Greg Tulgren said there were about 19-20 family members, ages 4-84, at the home for a going-away party for two relatives who traveling to Africa. He told the TV station he never thought the 23-year-old deck would fall, particularly since no one was jumping on it.
KMSP-TV said seven people were hospitalized initially. A husband and wife who suffered broken ankles and a nephew of the homeowners required surgery. All three were in fair condition, the TV station said
