Rangers sign injured Lewis to extension

Injured Texas Rangers right-handed pitcher Colby Lewis has signed a one-year contract for the 2013 season, the team said Monday.

No information about its terms was released, but MLB.com reported it was for a guaranteed $2 million with an additional $4 million in possible incentives when he returns to action next year.

Lewis, 33, struggled with an elbow injury earlier this season after beginning the year as the Rangers’ opening day starter. He landed on the disabled list from June 24-July 18, then underwent season-ending surgery to repair a torn flexor tendon.

He posted a 6-6 mark with a 3.43 ERA in 16 starts in the 2012 campaign before going down.

In three seasons with Texas, Lewis has racked up an 32-29 record with a 3.93 ERA in 80 games.
