Murray ousted in London tournament
Defending champion Andy Murray was one of three top seeds beaten Wednesday at the AEGON Championships tennis tournament in London.
Murray, the No. 1 seed in addition to having won the tournament last year, dropped a 3-6, 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (7-1) second-round decision to Nicolas Mahut over 2 1/2 hours. Mahut had 13 aces on the day. Each player lost serve once in the final set with Mahut holding on in the tiebreaker.
Fourth-seeded Gilles Simon and No. 7-seeded Andy Roddick were also ousted. Simon fell to Simone Bolelli 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) and Edouard Roger-Vasselin defeated Roddick 4-6, 6-4, 7-5.
Second-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga needed less than an hour to dispatch Jamie Baker 6-3, 6-2 and No. 3-seeded Janko Tipsarevic beat Ryan Sweeting 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) in earning spots in the third round.
Also among highly seeded players, fifth-seeded Feliciano Lopez beat Steve Darcis 6-3, 3-6, 7-5; No. 6-seeded Marin Cilic roared past Matthew Ebden 6-2, 6-1; and eighth-seeded Julien Benneteau eliminated Tatsuma Ito 5-7, 6-4, 7-5.
Other seeded players advancing were No. 9 Kevin Anderson and 10th-seeded David Nalbandian.
Also headed to the third-round with wins Wednesday are: Grigor Dimitrov, Xavier Malisse, Lukas Rosol, Lu Yen-Hsun, Sam Querrey and Ivan Dodig.
