MLB: Washington 5, Atlanta 2 (2nd game)
John Lannan’s seven solid innings in his first start of the year Saturday helped Washington top Atlanta 5-2 for a split in their doubleheader.
Lannan (1-0), a full-time member of the Nationals’ starting rotation last season, was recalled from Class AAA Syracuse before the game and responded with a good start, holding Atlanta to two runs on five hits.
The left-hander walked two and struck out three as the National League East-leading Nationals rebounded from a 4-0 loss in the first game.
Sean Burnett turned in a scoreless eighth inning and Tyler Clippard finished up with his 16th save.
Roger Bernadina went 3-for-4 and drove in the go-ahead run with a seventh-inning single off Cristhian Martinez (4-2). Ian Desmond and Danny Espinoza also provided RBI for the winners.
Freddie Freeman went 2-for-4 with an RBI single for the Braves.
