MLB: Tampa Bay 4, Seattle 1

Alex Cobb hurled seven effective innings Monday and the surging Tampa Bay Rays won a season-high seventh straight game, 4-1 over Seattle.

Cobb (7-8) surrendered one run on four hits and two walks, striking out five en route to his third victory in three starts.

Joel Peralta pitched a scoreless eighth inning and Fernando Rodney nailed down his major league-best 37th save as the Rays moved to 10 games over .500 (62-52).

Tampa Bay scored all four of its runs in the third inning, highlighted by B.J. Upton’s two-run homer.

Seattle’s Blake Beavan (7-7) was touched for four runs on eight hits through six innings.

Eric Thames provided the Mariners’ only RBI.
