MLB: Seattle 5, Minnesota 2
Hisashi Iwakuma allowed only one hit over six innings Tuesday and Dustin Ackley pounded a three-run homer Tuesday in Seattle’s 5-2 win over Minnesota.
Iwakuma (5-3) took a no-hitter into the fifth inning, surrendering a run on a pair of walks, a passed ball and Ben Revere’s sacrifice fly in the third.
The Japanese right-hander issued four walks in all and struck out four as the Mariners won their second straight against Minnesota and 10th in 13 games overall.
Tom Wilhelmsen was called in to record the final out for his 20th save after the Twins had scored a run on two hits against Charlie Furbush in the ninth.
The M’s were clinging to a 2-1 lead in the fifth when they put two runners aboard with none out and Ackley pounded a pitch from Scott Diamond (10-6) over the right field scoreboard.
Diamond — who is facing a suspension for throwing at the Texas Rangers’ Josh Hamilton Thursday — ended up allowing five runs on seven hits over seven frames for Minnesota.
