MLB: Pittsburgh 5, Miami 1
A.J. Burnett rebounded from a rare loss to hold the Marlins to one run over 7 2/3 innings Saturday and the Pittsburgh Pirates bested Miami 5-1.
Burnett (11-3) had absorbed his first defeat in 13 starts Sunday, falling to the Milwaukee Brewers 4-1. But the right-hander came right back against the Marlins, yielding eight hits but issuing no walks while fanning three.
He was aided by a pair of Pittsburgh double plays and two RBI from Garrett Jones, who collected one of two bases-loaded walks coaxed by the Pirates in a four-run fourth inning.
Brad Lincoln recorded the final four outs for his first save as Pittsburgh clinched its three-game series and remained a half-game out of first place in the National League Central.
Miami starter Carlos Zambrano (5-8) handed out six walks over 3 1/3 innings, allowing five runs (four earned).
Justin Ruggiano socked a solo homer for the Marlins’ only run.
