MLB: Oakland 9, Minnesota 3
Yoenis Cespedes drove in three runs and belted one of four Oakland homers Saturday in the Athletics’ 9-3 romp over Minnesota.
Cespedes triggered a four-run first inning with an RBI double and added a two-run shot in the third to hand Oakland a 6-0 lead.
Chris Carter added a three-run bomb, while Seth Smith and Brandon Moss provided solo shots for the A’s, who clinched their three-game series against Minnesota and won for the eighth time in nine contests overall.
Josh Reddick went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and Smith chipped in a runs-scoring triple for the winners.
Tommy Milone (9-6) earned the victory despite yielding 10 hits over six full innings. The left-hander held the Twins to two runs while walking one and striking out four.
Minnesota starter Cole De Vries (2-2) was lit up for seven runs on six hits in a five-inning effort.
Josh Willingham belted his 22nd homer and Brian Dozier also went deep for the Twins.
