MLB: Detroit 6, Tampa Bay 2

Rick Porcello hurled seven scoreless innings Saturday and Austin Jackson cracked a three-run homer in Detroit’s 6-2 win over Tampa Bay.

Porcello (6-5) allowed only one runner as far as third base while stifling the Rays on four hits. The right-hander didn’t allow a walk and struck out four for the Tigers.

Detroit nursed a 1-0 lead throughout much of the game until Jackson’s blast in the eighth opened up a four-run cushion.

Jhonny Peralta added a pair of late RBI as the Tigers took a 2-1 lead in their four-game series at Tropicana Field.

Rays starter Jeremy Hellickson (4-4) surrendered one run on four hits over 2 2/3 frames before having to leave with an injury. The right-hander sustained a bruised shin when he was hit in the leg by a Prince Fielder liner.

Carlos Pena and Jeff Keppinger socked solo homers for Tampa Bay.
