London outage halts Olympics-bound trains
Olympic Sunday got off to a rough start in London when the power went out at a key train station, transit officials said.
Significant delays were anticipated by Network Rail after a transformer blew, knocking out both the trains and the signaling service in and out of King”s Cross St Pancras in central London.
Britain”s The Daily Telegraph said King”s Cross is a major transit hub for London commuters and thousands of fans attending the games. Repair crews fixed the problem but residual delays were anticipated the rest of the day, Network Rail said.
Underground service was not impacted by the outage and London”s other train stations were open for business, the newspaper said.
Network Rail said the power failure occurred late Sunday morning and was apparently caused by heavy rain in the city.
