Jets’ Revis has torn ACL

New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis has a torn knee ligament and may be lost to the team for the rest of the season, the Jets said Monday.

Revis, a 27-year-old, four-time Pro Bowl selection, was injured Sunday during a play in the Jets” 23-20 overtime victory over Miami. He wasn”t involved in contract on the play but grabbed at his left knee and fell to the ground.

Jets Coach Rex Ryan said the injury was diagnosed as a tear of the left knee”s anterior cruciate ligament. Revis is to undergo surgery soon.

Ryan wouldn”t rule out a return this season for Revis, but recovery and rehabilitation from such an injury is generally 6-9 months.

“Certainly, it”s a big disappointment,” Ryan said. “But … I know the way Darrelle is. This is a guy that”s as competitive as it gets. He”s going to come back strong from it.”

Ryan said he would talk with Revis before making an injury-relate roster move.

Revis missed a game in the second week of the season because of a mild concussion suffered in the season-opener.

The six-year pro has been named to Pro Bowl teams in each of the last four seasons.
