Europe, U.S. tied 2-2 at Ryder Cup

The team of Ian Poulter and Justin Rose posted a 2-and-1 win that left the European and U.S. teams tied 2-2 after Friday’s foursomes.

The first of four afternoon four-ball matches began just as Poulter and Rose sealed their win over Steve Stricker and Tigers Woods with a par at the 17th hole.

Phil Mickelson and Keegan Bradley won 4-and-3 over Luke Donald and Sergio Garcia and the team of Jason Dufner and Zach Johnson used back-to-back hole wins to complete a 3-and-2 decision over Europe’s Lee Westwood and Francesco Molinari to account for the Americans’ points.

Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell were up three at one point and just held off Jim Furyk and Brandt Snedeker 1-up for the first European point.

The Ryder Cup is a three-day team tournament conducted every other year. Europe won the 2010 competition and needs 14 of the possible 28 points to retain the Ryder Cup.
