Conte appeals $21,000 striking fine

Chicago Bears safety Chris Conte said he is appealing a $21,000 fine imposed for contact to the head of a receiver during a game against the Carolina Panthers.

Conte, who was fined after an official flagged him for a personal foul for striking Panthers receiver Brandon LaFell during the Bears’ 23-22 win, said the incident was not intentional and he is appealing the fine, the Chicago Tribune reported Friday.

“It wasn’t a penalty, but I guess they called it a penalty,” Conte said. “I didn’t do anything. He’s diving into me. I don’t know what you want me to do.”
