Colts coach hospitalized, will miss games

Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano will miss several games because he was diagnosed acute promyelocytic leukemia, officials said.

Pagano, 52, is in isolation at an Indianapolis hospital where he will remain for treatment for about six weeks, the Indianapolis Star reported Monday.

The first-year head coach had been feeling fatigued in recent weeks and underwent blood tests during the bye week.

One top organization official acknowledged it’s serious, but added “we’re very optimistic about his recovery.”

The American Cancer Society website said 80 to 90 percent of patients with acute promyelocytic leukemia go into remission with early treatment, important “because patients with APL may develop serious blood-clotting or bleeding problems.”
