Brazil to open 2013 Davis Cup in U.S.
Brazil will travel to the United States for a first-round Davis Cup series in 2013, Davis Cup officials said Wednesday.
The United States was a semifinalist this year, losing to Spain 3-1. The Spaniards, looking for a fourth Davis Cup title in five years, take on the Czech Republic in a best-of-five series Nov. 16-18 in this year”s final.
The Czechs beat Argentina in their semifinal.
The 2013 Davis Cup first-round series will be played Feb. 1-3 with quarterfinals set for April 5-7. The semifinals are to be played Sept. 13-15 and the finals Nov. 15-17.
The Americans haven”t played Brazil in Davis Cup since 1997 but their rivalry dates to 1932 with the United States holding a 3-1 series edges.
Spain, which plays the 2012 final at the Czech Republic, will be on the road for the first round in 2013 with a series scheduled in Canada. The Czechs” first-round series next year will be in Switzerland.
Also in the first round, Argentina is to play host to Germany, Croatia travels to Italy, Serbia is at Belgium, France heads for Israel and Austria plays at Kazakhstan.
