Early round games of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil will start between noon and 9 p.m. EDT with the draw for the tournament scheduled for Dec. 6, 2013.
Brazil, as the host team, will start the 20th FIFA World Cup group play with a 4 p.m. game on June 12, 2014 in Sao Paulo. The opponent will be determined later.
FIFA officials, in announcing the time schedules Thursday, said the World Cup final will be July 13 in Rio de Janeiro’s Maracana Stadium. That was the site of the 1950 World Cup final in which a crowd of 200,000 saw Uruguay beat Brazil 2-1.
FIFA will conduct a draw to determine the groups for round-robin play on Dec. 6, 2013.
