Gold, silver begin week up

Gold prices advanced $6.90 on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange, closing at $1,616.20 an ounce Monday.

Silver rose 6 cents to settle at $27.86 an ounce.

The euro was 1.2398 from $1.2376 Friday. Against the yen, the dollar was 78.22 from 78.56 yen Friday.

The British pound was $1.5605 from $1.5636. The U.S. dollar Monday was 0.999 against Canadian dollars from 1.0015 Friday.
