Gold settles slightly lower

Gold prices lost $3.90 to settle at $1,639 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange Tuesday in late trading.

Silver shed 23 cents to $29.28 an ounce.

The euro rose to $1.2467 from Monday’s $1.2345. Against the yen, the dollar fell to 79.27 yen from 79.43 yen.

The British pound was $1.5775 from $1.5785. Against the Canadian dollar, the U.S. dollar was 0.9897 from 0.9889 Monday.
