Gold gains are slim

Gold prices added $1.80, settling at $1,614.40 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange Monday in late trading.

Silver added 3 cents, closing at $27.80 an ounce.

Against the euro, the dollar was $1.2332 from $1.229 Friday. Against the yen, the dollar was 78.27 from 78.27 yen.

The British pound was $1.5684 Monday from $1.5683. Against the Canadian dollar, the U.S. dollar was 0.992 Monday from 0.991 Friday.
